March 4, 2012Shut Up and Rumble, Overground Project, Dallas TX
Bands, Beers and Vert were on hand for this years 1st ever “Shut up and Rumble”. What was made out of a tradition going back to the ’80’s Shut Up and Skate and adding the vibe of the Rumble in Ramona, this is what you get. It was a good time for all who attended. Although we didn’t have Grosso wearing the stripes ready to penalize someone for not doing it proper, We didn’t have the Creature’s Vert Vampire holding it all down (We missed you Darren) or a T-Mag episode. What we did have was a 2 day event full of Vert session’s that brought out the likes of Justin Lynch, Henry Gutierrez, Neal Hendrix, Jake Brown, Chris Gentry, Ben Johnson, Josh Staford, Adam Effertz, Troy Chason and a host of other shredders. Everybody killed it for two day’s. Vert, Vert, and more Vert. Troy’s “Axe Murderer” was 100% PUNK ROCK. Chris Russell threw it down like a man, but when he witness Troys signature trick, he almost shit his pants, “WHAT WAS THAT”. The mini-Ramp jams were intense with a SIK game of “Add-a-Trick”. A Saturday night indoor street course session was on hand once the Texas sunset laid it’s hands upon us. Raney Beres stole the show with his air to wall ride around the corner. It was a session of (taking a caption from Dave Duncan) Criss-Cross-Craziness. Mike Crum’s Overground Project has a great future ahead. The bands ripped it up all day, and there was no shortage of beers. It was truly a Texas Vibe surrounding the place. Gary Morris had his tattoo equipment on hand, so the ink was flowing. Billy Smith was on hand to MC the Embassy Sponsored Mini Ramp Jam. No contest just bucks for tricks. Tyler Martin was the last man standing when it was all said and done. Edward Sanchez took home some cash for best trick, blunt-heelflip-to-fakie on the extension. Todd Prince was on his best behavior for about 30 minutes, but that’s another story. Tex Gibson was on hand showing little Luke how to drop in the mini (“Luke..I am your father, trust me”). Gentry had a car headlight session, he did Rodeo’s in the dark!! Party @ Craig’s house to close the Saturday & Sunday night’s festivities. All in all it was a good’ole Texas throw down, Hopefully next year it will be 4 times bigger!!!! Embassy wants to give it up for ALL that represented, to Henry Gutierrez and Glenn for making it out. To the Overground Project crew, Crum, Ollie, Val. It’s good to see the Texas Vibe is alive and well. Thanks to Craig & Kelly for the yard space. Time for a Bloody Mary!
